How to record moths
Recording sightings of moths and their caterpillars helps conservationists monitor their populations. To help moths, we need to know where they are found! There are lots of ways to share your sightings. You can submit them to your county moth recorder (you can usually find their details online), or use an app such as iRecord or iNaturalist. It usually helps to take a photo of the species you're recording, to help verify the sighting. Remember to record things like the date of the sighting, the location (including a grid reference), the number of individuals you saw and whether it was an adult moth, a caterpillar, an egg or a pupa.
